Doctor Lawrence Black, D.O., F.A.C.O.S.

Dr Black has been practicing surgery in Fort Myers since 1994. He is former Chief of the Medical Staff at Gulf Coast Hospital and has been Chairman of both the Surgery Department and Credentials Committee.

Prior to coming to Fort Myers he served four years in the US Navy, was a general surgeon at the Naval Hospital Orlando. He was Ship’s Surgeon on the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga, CV 60 during the first Gulf War, participating in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He earned a Navy Achievement Medal for instituting a Trauma Response Team on the Saratoga.

He did his residency in surgery at Lansing General Hospital in Lansing, Michigan which was affiliated with Michigan State University.

Dr Black graduated from medical school in northeast Missouri at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, was Chief Intern and was a member of Sigma Sigma Phi, the National Osteopathic Academic Honorary Society.

He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biology with Honors at Westminster College (PA), studying one year abroad in Munich, Germany.

Dr Black is a Navy brat, having grown up traveling all over the US, attending schools from Adak, Alaska to Newport, Rhode Island, Southern California, Great Lakes, Minneapolis. He has been married for over thirty years to Dr Debra Todd Black who is a Family Physician here in Fort Myers. Together they have two grown daughters.
